FO: Big Bad Bret Blanket

February 24, 2009

bbbb-foPattern: Big Bad Baby Blanket from Stitch n Bitch

Yarn: 5.5 balls of Queensland Collection Rustic Wool

Needle: US No. 7

When I found out that Bret was on his way into the world, I knew I wanted to knit something for him. Honestly, I had months before his birth to choose a pattern and complete it. I obviously didn’t use that time wisely. He was born last month and I just finished this. Better late than never, right?

The pattern itself is so super simple but the results are pretty classy looking. the knitting and purling back and forth wasn’t as bad as I though it would be. If it had been straight stockinette, I would have died, but the 50/50 knit and purl made it bearable.

The thing that surprised me the most about this project was the yarn. I searched for superwash wools on WEBS’s website and the Rustic Wool came up. It has subtle color inflections…. that’s not the right word but it’s not coming to me right now. Ah, according to WEBS, it has color “variations.” Basically, the way it’s dyed makes it look hand dyed. And it was not bad to knit with at all. It’s surprisingly soft for a superwash wool. This yarn gets a thumbs up.

BBBB took a little more than a month to complete but I’m glad it’s done. Once it’s dry, it’s off to Bret!
